Tell us a little bit about yourself

I’m Marz, part of 4-man Hip Hop outfit “Scribe Tribe” from Brighton, UK, and the founder of ZramRecords. I have been making beats for about 8 years and have been writing for about 10 years. I went to Access To Music back on 2009 to learn how to actually use Logic properly as learning off your own back was long! I also met FlipTrix at ATM and done a few shows with him which was a good start to my live performances and a good stepping-stone. Since then I have released my latest E.P “Marz Attacks” and a FREE L.P “Sax, Drugs, & On The Dole’ both available on Bandcamp here:

What made you choose the name?

Marz has just been a name that’s stuck since school so just carried on using it really

What, if any, are the main influences for you when writing your music?

As I produce I tend to listen to all sorts of music so can’t really say I have a main influence now, but growing up I used to listen to a lot of TaskForce, Jehst, Phi Life Cypher plus U.S stuff like Mobb Deep, Nas, Jay-Z. Nowadays tend to listen to anything I can sample.

At what age did you first decide to make Hip Hop music?

I was always putting pen to pad since young but was about 20 when I started writing lyrics properly and focusing on making tunes, but started making beats about 3 years later

What is the main theme behind your current release?

I aimed to make the E.P as an easy listening Hip Hop mix, nothing too hard with some nice samples and features that help piece it together and make a short but well worth 5 track E.P

How long have you been working on your current project?

The E.P “Marz Attacks” took me about 12 months to complete, as I was studying production I produced all the beats, then wrote lyrics to the beats I had whittled down and chosen, hit up a few local emcee’s and singers for some collab’s and let the magic begin

Who features on production for your current project?

All the tracks are produced by myself and I got some features including Rum Committee, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Suave Debonair, More1, Scribe Tribe, Kagey, Peppi Knott and Romy Adams.

Have you got any other promotion in place?

I did some internet promo myself through my label ZramRecords and managed to get blogged on a few sites, as well as some decent Radio Play, plus Billy Danze from M.O.P put “Buy Me A Drink” on a MixTape he released called “Raps United Nation – U.K 1st Wave”

Have you performed at many live shows and what kind of a reaction do you get?

Yeah I stacked up some live shows last year 2012 and played with and supported the likes of Wretch32, Afu-Ra, FlipTrix, Verb-T, Phi Life Cypher, Speech Debelle, Dub Pistols, Rhyme Asylum, Dirty Dike, Jam Baxter, and Asian Dub Foundation

Have you been on any live radio shows and what do you prefer, radio or live on stage?

Yeah I was on a Live show with Juice 107.2FM in summer 2012, also been played on BBC Radio, Reprezent Radio, plus a few local stations. I much prefer being in front of a crowd performing and getting hype from tracks I produce and when the reaction is good it’s a bonus

Have you featured on any other UK Hip Hop artist’s tracks, if so, who?

Nah I’ve not featured but I’ve got a few features on my beats including Rum Committee, More1, Suave Debonair, Lj, Twizzy, Hozay, Frankie Stew, Bill Daggs, Koaste, and my crew Scribe Tribe. I’ve produced a few tracks for Broken Dialect, and got some more production coming soon with T.B, Skirmish, NATE, and a few more big names in the pipeline

Have you got any videos on-line i.e YouTube, Vimeo etc?

Yeah I got my own Youtube channel and you can find all my latest videos:

What are the plans for the future?

To keep on making beats and push my music as much as possible

Thanks for your time, is there anyone you would like to shout out?

Gotta obviously shout out my crew Scribe Tribe plus everyone who has featured on my tracks and promoters who put me on the bill, much love
