Late on Influences, Lastest Album and More [Interview] [@OfficialLate @BlackBudget]
For those of you not in the know, Late, is an underground UK Rap artist that has been doing his thing for quite some time. During his stint in the UK hip hop game, Late has managed to find himself working with UK hip hop mogul Tricksta and the respected Park Street PR, as well managing to organise a bag of features from accross the pond.
We at Black Budget Ent thought we would catch up with Late to have a brief interview about his influences and more….
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Got into hip hop at an early age, I did the graffiti, breaking, dj’ing thing in the late 90’s. Decided to pick up the mic and released my first single ‘UK Sound’ in 1999 under the group name Villains and have been releasing music ever since.
What made you choose the name?
It used to be my old tag name.
What, if any, are the main influences for you when writing your music?
I just write about my own life and what I see around me.
At what age did you first decide to make Hip Hop music?
I don’t remember it just developed from dj’ing, putting on nights doing the radio so there wasn’t an exact date.
What is the main theme behind your current release?
My last album “UK Rapscallion” I kept all the collabs UK so on my new album “Street Science” I worked with mc’s from Houston, Memphis, South Central LA, Cincinnati and Dallas if you like my “Below Street Level” album you will love this.
How long have you been working on your current project?
The album Street Science took around 2 years but I released other projects while I was making it.
Tricksta produced the whole album.
Have you got any other promotion in place?
Park Street PR is doing the promotion for it.
Have you performed at many live shows and what kind of a reaction do you get?
Over the years I’ve played in most cities in the UK I usually get a good response.
Have you been on any live radio shows and what do you prefer, radio or live on stage?
Yeah I’ve been on lots of stations I used to have a radio show so I do prefer doing radio.
Have you featured on any other UK Hip Hop artist’s tracks, if so, who?
Absolutely loads, too many to name recently I’ve done tracks with Genesis Elijah, Supar Novar, Iron Bryadz, K9, Tuberculosis to name a few I love doing posse tracks in 2003 I did a track called “Open Mic Session” which features 50 mc’s from all over the world. This was put together before the internet was that popular I didn’t use mp3s it was done by sending cd’s through the post. It took ages to make and about 3 months to mix down, that was 9 to 10 years ago so I can’t name every one I’ve worked because it’s quite a lot.
Have you got any videos on-line i.e YouTube, Vimeo etc?
Yeah I’ve got quite a few my channels are www.youtube.com/lordlate and www.youtube.com/officiallatevideos.
Have you been featured on any UK broadcasters like SBTV/Link Up TV’s YouTube channels?
.I’ve done one exclusive freestyle for Triple Fear Films but not really into the whole freestyle thing I would rather make a proper song but I never say never.
What are the plans for the future?
Just to carry on releasing music, just lately I’ve been designing a lot of album covers for people so, I’d like to pursue that a bit more.
Thanks for your time, is there anyone you would like to shout out?
Big shout to Black Budget Entertainment for giving this opportunity also a shout out to Tricksta Jai Boo and Juttla for helping me with the album and to K-Rino, KB Da Kidnappa, IITone, Big Prodeje, Fat B and Gonja for featuring on the Street Science album.
